Teaser Tuesday: Finally #amreading My Signed Copy!

This Tuesday, it is time for the teaser again, and this time it is by one of my fave authors, Michael Cunningham, A Home at the End of the World. This is a copy he signed back last November, and to my eternal shame, I’m reading it now after 10 long months.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham

A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham

Here are two teaser sentences from A Home at the End of the World:

“I don’t know if I can describe Clare, though I can see her right down to her lazy way of gesturing, loose-wristed, until she gets to the point of the story, when she flicks her wrist with the lethal precision of the fly fisherman. If I close my eyes she’s there, and she’s there if I open them, too.”

Blurb: “From Michael Cunningham, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Hours, comes this widely praised novel of two boyhood friends: Jonathan, lonely, introspective, and unsure of himself; and Bobby, hip, dark, and inarticulate. In New York after college, Bobby moves in with Jonathan and his roommate, Clare, a veteran of the city’s erotic wars. Bobby and Clare fall in love, scuttling the plans of Jonathan, who is gay, to father Clare’s child. Then, when Clare and Bobby have a baby, the three move to a small house upstate to raise “their” child together and, with an odd friend, Alice, create a new kind of family. A Home at the End of the World masterfully depicts the charged, fragile relationships of urban life today.

I’ve always loved Cunningham’s lyrical prose, and in the shifting relationships of the characters in this book, I find more than enough to keep me reading. Insightful and moving so far, and I’m on the 136th page.

  1. I haven’t taken part in your Tuesday reading adventure … but I will think about it. Hey I liked your guest writer’s post. So how is your current read, AT HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD ? For a brief second I thought about Bodett’s book AT the End of the Road … More comical, an easy read … about life in Homer Alaska. Peace, T
