Writing on Guilt, and Breaks

Someone, I don’t remember who, said: “I like myself better when I’m writing regularly.”

I’m that kind of person.

But for the last few days, I haven’t been able to drag myself out of bed at ungodly hours to do my writing, and daytime has been reserved by life activities, and revisions of stories already written, especially the A-Z ebook. (By the way, I’m officially thinking of calling it A-Z Stories of Life and Death)

So the upshot of it is I’m going to bed guilty each night: how could I not write a single good line all day, and still get on with life?

I need to relax a little, I think, and not haul myself over the coals every time I miss a day or two of writing practice.

We’re all allowed our breaks. (Aren’t we?)

  1. Yes dear, take a break and give yourself a break. You are such a hard worker but I think you sometimes forget that you do all this writing because it gives you pleasure. You enjoy it. Remember? And if you don’t stop every now and then to rest, read and observe life around you, where are you going to get more inspiration to write such wonderful material?

  2. Taking a break is good for you. If you don’t get away from your writing every now and then, your mind will fizzle out on you. Trust me, that is an incredibly annoying experience.

Hours spent staring at blank pages because you want to write but can’t put the words and story together.
    :-)

  3. I been like a yo-yo lately. Fatigued and down at times I’ll read, play solitaire, or sleep. Then other times I’m all gung ho and ready to go and I’ll busy myself, though not always with the things that matter most. I think we all need a break now and then and we shouldn’t beat ourselves up about it. Enjoy your down time when you have it and relish in your bursts of creativity and action. You’ll be fine.

  4. You totally allowed breaks! But I feel your pain. Past few days I haven’t written much and the guilt just eats at me. Just remind yourself that life is unpredictable and you can only do your best which includes writing. =)

  5. Yes you are. Breaks from everything are good. Lets you step back, breath, take in different sensations, and then come back with a hoped for renewal. Enjoy it instead of holding onto draining feelings. Life happens. Writing will too, when you are as gifted as you are.
